The Formula One Register/St Leonards Press is pleased to announce two books covering the British Hillclimb Championship from its start in 1947 to 2018.
This is Volume 1 covering 1947-2000 running at over 400 pages
Over this 72 year period the championship has evolved through eras dominated by the Cooper-JAP V-twin in the 1950s, then ex-Formula 1, F5000, F2, FJ chassis and even 4-wheel-drive cars which held sway in the 1960s and 70s before specialist machinery such as Pilbeam, Gould and OMS took over. Similarly, the leading drivers have included names who made their mark elsewhere such as ERA and BRM founder Raymond Mays and legendary all-rounders Ken Wharton and Tony Marsh. More recently, the rather specialised nature of the sport has bred its own particular heroes such as Roy Lane, Martin Groves, Trevor Willis and Scott Moran.
As with other Formula One Register titles, the emphasis is on providing the most comprehensive possible record of every round. For virtually all events, full results are given together with chassis numbers for the majority of cars. A similar record was published by us in 1995, but this first volume has been expanded to include chassis numbers as well as some previously missing information and, following extensive research into the various scoring systems used, revised points tables. In conjunction with Volume 2, such a wealth of detail has never before been published.
